Cycle Safely
Cycling is a fun, healthy and environmentally friendly way for pupils to travel to and from school and enjoy their leisure time. However, it is important that young people enjoy their bikes safely.
Cycling England has recently replaced the so-called Cycling Proficiency Scheme with a programme called ‘Bikeability’ that has a clearer focus on road skills.
The Somerset Road Safety Partnership provides Bikeability and RoSPA Right Track training for schools across Somerset. Their team of specialist instructors can provide training to national standards at Levels 1, 2 and 3, with the first level delivered to children aged 9 and above in a traffic-free environment and the third level involving advanced road skills.
If you would like more information, or are interested in the Somerset Road Safety Partnership attending your school, please visit the Cyclists section of their website or call 01823 423430.
Adults watch out
Cycling safely is not just kids’ stuff. Whether you already feel quite confident on the road and wish to move on to the next level or you would simply appreciate a couple of hours’ basic instruction, consider yourself invited to Somerset County Council’s Moving Forward website.
