Road closures
![]()
There will be fixed road closures in place in the start and finish locations and rolling road closures all along the route of the race.
The rolling road closure system is enforced by police and civilian motorcycles – 62 in all – that initiate and maintain the road closures as the race approaches. These motorcycles close the roads in front of the race, allowing it to pass through without interference from non-race traffic. Once the race has departed an area, the roads will open again. In practice roads may be closed from fifteen minutes to half an hour, depending upon the terrain, weather and race location.
What to watch for
The race consists of 96 cyclists, 62 motorcycles, team cars, judges’ vehicles, media and emergency services. Expect to see a total of 100 motor vehicles supporting the race.
The type of terrain we have in Devon and the quality of riders can see the race split into smaller segments. Please be aware that even if the race appears to have passed it may not be safe to enter the race route. Please do not cross the road or enter the race route until you are absolutely certain that the race has passed. Please listen to the advice given by marshals and the police. Closed roads will not open until the final vehicle in the convoy (known as the `broom wagon´) has passed.
Please be courteous to race staff and other spectators and we would ask that you do not park your vehicle(s) on the race route. Thank you for your cooperation.
