Your chance to win Swifty’s jersey
Somerset cyclists taking part in this year’s Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride will have the chance to win a rare Tour of Britain points jersey signed by professional cyclist Ben Swift.
The Tour Ride, on Sunday 5 September, will offer cyclists of all abilities the opportunity to experience all, or part of Stage Four of The Tour of Britain race from Minehead to Teignmouth, just days before the professional riders take to the roads.
Riders can either attempt the Pro Ride, tackling the full 109 miles (175km), Challenge Ride, taking in the last 43 miles (70km) from Honiton to Teignmouth, or a 9 mile (15km) Family Ride around Teignmouth.
Participants from Somerset entering either the Pro Ride or Challenge Ride will automatically be entered into a draw for a jersey signed by Team Sky’s Ben Swift – winner of last year’s Hatherleigh to Yeovil stage of The Tour of Britain.
Somerset and Devon County Councils are working in partnership to co-host this year’s two Tour of Britain South West Stages and also assist with The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride.
Councillor David Hall, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “I’m really pleased that Somerset County Council have been able to offer this jersey as an incentive for people from Somerset to sign up and take part in The Tour Ride. Not only will people be helping a very worthwhile charity, but there’s the chance to walk away with a great memento.”
John Neate, The Prostate Cancer Charity’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be entering our second year of partnership with The Tour of Britain and we are thrilled to be heading to the South West for the first time this year. Somerset and Devon County Councils have been incredibly supportive towards Unite ByCycling and we are very grateful for their efforts in helping to make The South West Tour Ride a huge success.”
He added: “We are really hoping to get as many cyclists as possible to take part in the event. Whether people want to pit themselves against the pros or enjoy a leisurely ride with their family, the Tour Ride is offering something for everyone.”
Places for the Tour Ride are limited and entries close on 1 September 2010. For more information or to sign up visit: www.tourride.co.uk
